BOJI BAY ICE ARENA

2018-2019 Volunteers

Welcome Volunteers!

THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering with the Lakes Area Hockey Association. This registration will help us know who has interests in what areas and it will ensure that everyone is properly trained before tackling any volunteer position.

NEW for the 2018-19 Season

Volunteer Registration Required
This Volunteer Registration is REQUIRED for anyone who has an interest in helping at Open Skates, Home Games, Private Rentals, or other events. It must be completed by EACH individual who will volunteer.

SafeSport Training and Background Screening Requirements

Because of the incidents of sexual and physical abuse, hazing, bullying, and harassment that continue to arise nationwide, federal legislation and USA Hockey guidelines have been implemented that impact our association. These measures are intended to protect our kids from becoming victims of such actions and to help us all recognize the signs of such abuses.

All association members, guests and/or visitors, including but not limited to administrators, coaches, volunteers and employees, who will participate in a role having regular, routine or frequent access to minor participants, must pass a background screen AND successfully complete SafeSport training in order to be qualified to act in such a role. Those roles are:

  • Board Member
  • Coach
  • Assistant Coach
  • On-Ice Official
  • Locker Room Monitor
  • Team Manager
  • Penalty Box Official
  • Safety Coordinator
  • Facility Supervisor
  • Skate Cop

While the above roles are the only ones that REQUIRE SafeSport training and Background Screening, we’d encourage you to complete both activities regardless of the areas in which you typically volunteer.

The SafeSport training takes about 90 minutes to complete and is instrumental in helping us all learn how to recognize and respond to concerning behaviors in our kids or in adults who have regular contact with our kids.

The consent to background screen takes about 5 minutes to complete. Background screen results DO NOT come to our association. Our governing body, the Midwest Amateur Hockey Association, receives notification if any of our background screens return any disqualifying results.

ONLY individuals with current SafeSport certificates on file with LAHA are considered to have successfully completed SafeSport training. ONLY individuals who have registered and passed the Midwest Amateur Hockey Association’s background screening system are considered to have passed background screening.

Anyone who has NOT successfully completed SafeSport training AND passed background screening is disqualified from acting in the volunteer roles listed above.

Thank you for your diligence in helping make our sport as safe as possible!
